Garfield Randomizer

I've spent some time playing around with the Eagle_Fire Garfield Randomizer. This code goes into the Garfield.com vaults and picks out random panels from the comics, scrambling them up to make new, more whimsical comics. Here are a few of my results:

Weird Yodaesque Sketch

At some point, I'd like to have some kind of regular comic strip on this blog. But until then, here's a sketch of some guy who vaguely resembles Yoda.

Stephen Harper: "The Lesser of Two Evils"

This is something I did for fun in VAMT class, based on an idea from a friend of mine. I liked his idea, so I put together my own version of it.

The artistic challenge, of course, was to make both candidates look evil, but to make Stephen Harper look slightly less evil than Stephane Dion.

(NOTE: This is not a political statement of any kind. At the time, however, the Conservative Party was running a campaign of very controversial ads attacking Stephane Dion.)

Super Mario 64 - Underwater Theme + Improvisation

Here's a recording of myself, playing and improvising on the lovely piece, "Dire, Dire Docks" from Super Mario 64. I apologize for the sound being too quiet, but I can assure you, it's worth the effort of turning the sound up to hear it. I intend to do more such improvisation in the future.

More Ads + Movie Poster

Here are a few more ads from VAMT class, as well as a movie poster for the classic space opera, "Star Ears".

Art Ads

Another VAMT project was to come up with an ad that used a piece of classic art in its design. I was asked by our teacher to come up with a few examples, so I put together an ad for a company I made up called "Buckley Insurance".

I call this last one "Canadian Gothic". I was working on it while the computers at the school were acting up, so I lost the file twice. I ended up just doing it at home and e-mailing it to the school.

There was one more, with a painting by Picasso. I'll try not to give it away too much, but when I find it, I'll post it.

Absolut Ads

Here is a project I did for my Visual Arts and Media Technology (or, as we call it, "VAMT") class at school. You've probably heard of the famous Absolut magazine ad campaign, in which every ad includes the well-known shape of the Absolut bottle in a different style or theme. Here are my contributions to the art:

Suspended Disbelief August 1st 2007 - September 19th 2007

Here are some more comics I did for, oddly enough, a different local newspaper. Much like Jack and Tom, they center around one smart guy, one not-so-smart guy. I intended for the guy with the glasses to look like me.

This series was actually pretty okay. I did one comic every two weeks. What a go-getter I became in those months.

(Wait, this began on January 20th, 2007, at the same time that I was doing Jack and Tom? That can't be right. I'll think about the dates.)

There were two versions of the February 7A strip. I sent two, in case the reference was too obscure, and left it to the editor to choose which to include in the paper. I think he chose the first one.

Jack and Tom October 2006 - March 2007

Here are some comics I did for a local newspaper a few years ago. They're a bit simple, but they have their moments. At the time, I was doing one comic per month (I'm not one to overwork myself). Enjoy!

Some of them may be missing, which saddens me a bit. If I find them, I'll try to upload them at a later date.
